Some say the pain of being the surviving brother bonded Bobby with the average Jane and Joe. That was a part, that he didn’t display Jack’s ease, and unlike Teddy, did not appear to be a playboy burdened by noblesse oblige. Whether or not he was all that close to the Church at the end of his career, he came across as more Catholic in his personality than his brothers, and in that sense in the USA in his time that made him seem more working class –he understood that people operate inside of hierarchies that don’t dissolve because they want them to; that family and other institutions make demands that shouldn’t or can’t be ignored.
